There was a song, in 6 stanzas of 8 lines each, named “Birniebouzle”, by Hogg, in which there is a kirk at Birniebouzle; and his highest aspiration, in the song, is to lead “the lassie” to the kirk, and thereafter to provide her with “lamb and mutton, beef and veal”, not forgetting “the porpy and the seal”, during his natural life.
