THE SALTIRE MEDLEY (M-S48+R48) Derek Haynes Carnforth Collection 4 Sq.Set with 4 Ladies at corners and 2 Men BtoB in centre facing up and down Strathspey:- 1- 8 Men turn 1 st  corners RH, pass RSh, turn 3 rd  corner LH and pass RSh to face own 2 nd  corner 9-16 Men turn 2 nd  corners RH, pass RSh, turn 4 th  corner LH and dance LSh round each other to face 3 rd  corners (Hazel Tree Corners) 17-24  Men change places RH with 3 rd  corners, 3 rd  corners turn LH in centre and return to places giving RH to Men who turn LH in centre to face 4 th  corners 25-32  Men repeat with 4 th  corners and end facing 1 st  corners (Corner Chain) 33-40  Men ½ diagonal Reel of 4 with 1 st  corners, pass LSh and dance ½ diagonal reel of 4 with 2 nd  corners 41-48  Men ½ diagonal Reel with 3 rd  corners then with 4 th  corners and end facing 1 st  corners (Mairi's Wedding reels) Reel:- 1-32  As Bars 1-32 above 33-48  Ladies dance double diagonal reels of 4 twice (giving LH in centre) as Men dance ½ reels with 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd  and 4 th  corners and passing LSh in centre Note: As the men begin facing up and down, their 1 st  corners will be on their right which is actually the normal 2 nd  corner diagonal. This rule applies throughout the dance.
Derek Haynes started Scottish Country dancing in 1953 at the age of 21 and qualified as a RSCDS dance teacher in 1958. He devised at least 73 dances which he published in the Carnforth Collections 1-6, including 3 highland dances, this dance for 6 people and one for 5 dancers - Domino Five.
