As the Atlantic Ocean rolls in past the Small Isles, its azure shallows tumble onto sparkling white beaches which have long lured photographers and film-makers. None more so than the stretches from Arisaig Bay to the silver sands of Morar where 'Local Hero', 'Highlander' and 'Breaking the Waves' were filmed. Morar is a small village, 3 miles south of Mallaig. The old road takes you past the rapids of River Morar, Britain's shortest river, whilst the new road sweeps past Morar and Loch Morar, which is the deepest fresh water loch in Europe. It is said that in its dark depths 'Morag' the monster patrols her domain.  Morar is the birthplace of BBC weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood.
