Devised in December 1996 and dedicated to the Montgomery family in Edmonton, Alberta. The recommended tune is, of course, The Old Gray Cat. “Touch not the Cat bot a Glove” is the motto of Clan Chattan (The Clan of the Cats), a grouping of Mackintoshes, Davidsons, Macphersons, MacGillivrays and MacBeans. 'Bot' means without. The 'glove' of a wildcat is the pad. If the cat is 'ungloved', its claws are unsheathed. The motto serves as a warning that one should beware when the wildcat's claws are 'without a glove'. It is a reference to the historically violent nature of the clan and serves as a metaphorical warning to other clans that they should think twice before interfering with Macpherson business. Ricky, the family cat of the Montgomery’s, is temperamental and does not take kindly to visitors. He was abandoned by his mother when he was a day old and seems to have deep psychological problems. JD failed to make friends – even though he bought him a tin of tuna – but Ricky was slightly less fierce towards him afterwards.
