This dance was devised by Robert Donald in honour of his youngest son, Gavin. Napier’s Index lists Gavin’s Reel as the earliest devised dance in a 5 couple square set as it was published in “Green Lochan & 11 Other Scottish Dances by Row Clowes & Bob Donald” in 1971. The recommended tune is the traditional “Bonny Mally Lee”.
