It is a common misconception that the folk song "Lass of Richmond Hill" relates to Richmond Hill in southwest
London, where incidentally there is the factory, staffed mainly by disabled ex-servicemen and women, which
produces the poppies sold each November for Remembrance Day.
The song is actually based upon a lass residing in Hill House at Richmond in the Yorkshire Dales and the song has
apparently been the official Regimental Song of The Green Howards Regiment of Yorkshire since 1789. This dance
was devised for the music.
